Built in 1885 to house the Lidgerwood Foundry, the building located in the triangular block opposite the Railway Station was later acquired and extensively modified by successive owners throughout the 20th century.
Threatened with demolition in 1987, it generated important social mobilization that ensured not only its preservation, but also the opening of the CONDEPHAAT listing process. Recognized in 1990 also at municipal level, it was restored and became home to the newly created Museum of the City of Campinas in 1991. After structural weaknesses were found that posed a risk to public visitation, the museum was emptied and closed in 2017, and has remained so to this day.
The premises that organize this project follow two main objectives:
- restoration and conservation of the building, based on its current condition and the historical research carried out;
- adapting the building to current safety and accessibility standards and to the museum's functional demands, identified through meetings with various members of its staff;
